Say it loud… I’m menopausal and … er, well, hot!

I don’t mind that I’m getting older. It certainly beats being dead. I don’t even mind that my body is going through a slew of changes, not all of which are pretty. I got used to an ever-changing body when I turned 14 and had my first period. From that point on, I knew I’d better have a sense of humor and get over any hang ups about what it means to be a woman. What I do mind is that there’s a stigma attached to getting older – especially for women. That’s why I’ve created this blog.
I am encouraged by the number of websites and other resources available for women to learn about physiological and psychological changes that can occur as part of the aging process, but I’m discouraged by how many of us are afraid that getting older means the end to our vitality as women.

Menopause is just one small portion of my adventure into “the middle ages”, so I don’t plan to write about only that subject. I will also write about other aspects, good and challenging, that I’m experiencing as a baby boomer getting older, including the braces on my teeth, which I have worn for nine months. There’s a lot to be said for juggling hot flashes and the pain of newly tightened braces. The combination has tested my sanity and patience, but maybe it will make me that much more flexible.... Maybe.

I know this blog will be a therapeutic outlet for me. I hope that it will be also be useful to other women dealing with similar issues, and to the people who love them. I’d love to say I’m going to post an entry every other day. Right now, my aim is to post weekly. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

I am a public relations and marketing communications consultant with more than 20 years of experience. I love working with clients who are passionate about the services or products they provide their customers. I take my work seriously, but my sense of humor keeps me from letting life get in the way of my perspective and ability to create. My latest mantra: I'm a work in progress.
